Pen Pal Program
The Friends of Tonga Pen Pal program was started in 2019 and works to provide students in Tonga and overseas the opportunity for connection and to practice authentic letter writing skills. The Pen Pal program also reinforces writing skills and expands cultural exposure for Tongan children, while allowing overseas students to learn more about a country different to their own.

About the Program
In 2022, Friends of Tonga began a partnership with Educators of America, which has allowed us to grow our programming to encompass wider collaboration between Tongan students and students overseas, through their Building Cultural Bridges Program.
The Building Cultural Bridges (BCB) Program is an innovative and impactful initiative by Educators of America, designed to foster cultural awareness, mutual respect, and global understanding among students and educators. Through engaging activities, collaborative projects, and meaningful exchanges, the program empowers participants to explore diverse perspectives, develop intercultural communication skills, and build connections across borders.
By emphasizing empathy, inclusivity, and shared learning, the BCB Program equips participants with the tools to navigate our increasingly interconnected world with confidence and compassion. Whether it’s through virtual partnerships or hands-on community projects, every participant leaves the program with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation for the richness of global cultures.
The BCB Program has created lasting impacts in diverse locations across the globe. From the vibrant communities of Namibia and Tonga, to the cultural richness of Hawaii and dynamic energy of New York, our program celebrates and unites these unique cultures, creating a shared understanding that transcends borders.
Join us in celebrating diversity, breaking barriers, and building bridges toward a brighter, more united future.
